A MAINS burst sent plumes of water spouting 20ft into the air in a city centre street yesterday.
The pipe was accidentally fractured by construction workers on a site near the junction of Crossgate and South Street, Durham, shortly before 2pm.
A Northumbrian Water spokeswoman said: "We managed to plug the hole and carry out repairs as quickly as possible."
