ENTERPRISING gardeners at Darlington Borough Council are growing plants in reusable pots in a cost-cutting move.
The authority's Woodburn Nursery sends more than a million plants to 23 councils around the country.
For the past two years, the council has worked with customers to introduce the reusable, hard plastic plant containers which are used to grow bedding plants in.
The plants are delivered to customers in the containers, which are then returned to Darlington for re-use.
Councillor Lee Vasey, the council's cabinet member for leisure services, said: "The reusable pots help us to grow a better quality plant and we make a saving of £20,000 a year."
