A COUNCIL is continuing its campaign to secure more cash for pensioners.

The District of Easington authority has joined forces with the pension Services's "Pick it up, It's yours'' campaign to urge over 60s to apply for money, which is due to them.

Pension Service staff will be at four community locations in Blackhall and Horden to explain the credit scheme and how it could benefit elderly residents.

Representatives from the council's benefits team and Age Concern will also be on hand to give help and advice on housing and council tax benefits.

A spokeswoman for Easington council said: "It may also be worthwhile for pensioners over 65 who have applied before and did not qualify, to call in and apply again as the amount of weekly income on which housing and council tax benefits is based increased from October 2003."

The advice sessions will be held between 10am and 12.30pm on: Monday, April 26, at Blackhall Community Centre; Tuesday, April 27, at Airlie House, Blackhall; Tuesday, May 4, at Robinson House, Horden and Wednesday, May 5, at Roseby Road Community Centre, in Horden.
