COASTGUARDS are warning people to be aware of the tides after three people became trapped over the bank holiday weekend.
A couple, in their 40s, from Wales, were caught out by the tide under Huntcliff, at Saltburn, on Sunday, at around 7pm.
They were spotted by a man who used his mobile phone to call for help after seeing the sea closing in around the man and woman.
Skinningrove and Redcar coastguards led the couple to safety.
Shortly afterwards, the coastguards spotted a man, in his 40s, walking towards Skinningrove along the beach from Saltburn, who was also cut off by the tide.
He was rescued by helicopter from Leconfield, near Beverley.
A spokesman from Skinningrove Coastguards said: "People don't realise about the tide or how quickly they can be caught out. It comes in very quickly near the Ship Inn, at Saltburn."
A tide timetable is available from tourist information centres along the coast, or the Smugglers Heritage Centre in Saltburn."
