THEATRE lovers are to get the chance to see two of the most little-known works by one of Britain's leading playwrights.

The Northern Lights Theatre Company is touring with the shows The Lover and A Slight Ache, by Harold Pinter.

The Lover was initially written by Pinter as a television play and was broadcast in 1963, but was quickly moved to the stage in September of the same year in a production directed by the author.

The play deals with the need for sexual fantasy and examines both its liberating and destructive sides.

A Slight Ache was broadcast as a radio play in 1959 but had to wait until 1961 before being staged. It deals with the power struggle that takes place within marriages.

The plays will be at the Richmond Georgian Theatre on April 29 and 30, call the box office on (01748) 823710 for ticket details, and Northallerton town hall on May 11. Tickets are available from Greensleeves Music Shop on (01609) 780253.

The tour will also visit Pickering's Friends Meeting House, tonight; Helmsley Arts Centre, tomorrow and Thursday; Ripon Leisure Centre on Saturday; Lockton village hall on Monday; then Malton's Friend Meeting House on May 7; Sinnington village hall on May 8; Whitby Pavilion Theatre on May 10; and St John's College, York, on May 12 and 13.
