DARLINGTON Football Club manager David Hodgson was among VIPs at an event to celebrate the success of young learners yesterday.
It was held at the Cleveland Fire Brigade training centre and was aimed at recognising the achievements of 16 to 19 year-olds who have completed, or are participating in Entry to Employment training in the Redcar and Cleveland area.
Mr Hodgson addressed the audience on how he overcame learning barriers of his own to follow his dream of pursuing a career in football.
Youngsters who attended a variety of training centres around the region were presented with certificates of achievement by Redcar Mayor Norah Cooney.
The Entry to Employment training programme is an initiative devised by the Learning and Skills Council and aims to help young people prepare for employment or further learning.
It helps with motivation and confidence, literacy, numeracy and key skills.
