RESIDENTS in Crook's Leonard Cheshire Home, Bradbury House, will be following the progress of support worker Sian Myers when she takes a ten-day trek along one of the most famous hiking routes in the world.

Sian, 26, from Willington, will be following the Inca Trail through Peru to raise money for the home, one of 150 in the country.

Her aim is to reach Machu Picchu, the lost city of the Incas, walking in gruelling temperatures across high desert plateau and tropical Andean rainforest.

Sponsors including Barclays Bank's Community Programme have already pledged £2,500 but Sian has set herself a target of double that amount.

She wants the money to go towards a minibus for Bradbury House, which is home to 21 people with disabilities.

Sian, who grew up in St John's Chapel and went to Wolsingham School and Community College, said: "I've work for Leonard Cheshire at Bradbury House for five years and I've always wanted to do something different to raise money."

She added: "It will be a fantastic experience and I will be taking dozens of pictures to show people back home."

Rahima Latif, vice-chairwoman of the home's residents committee, said: "What she is doing is fantastic."
