RESIDENTS of Crook's Leonard Cheshire Home, Bradbury House, will be following the progress of support worker Sian Myers when she takes a ten-day trek along one of the most famous routes in the world.
Sian, aged 26, of Willington, is following the Inca Trail through Peru to raise money for the home.
Her aim is to reach Machu Picchu, the Lost City of the Incas, and she will walk in gruelling temperatures through high desert plateaux and Andean tropical rainforest.
Sponsors including Barclays Bank's Community Programme have already pledged £2,500 but Sian has set herself a target of double that. She expects the money to go towards a new minibus for Bradbury House, home to 21 people with varying disabilities.
Sian said: "I've worked for Leonard Cheshire at Bradbury House for five years and I've always wanted to do something different to raise money. Trekking Peru wasn't something I've ever thought about doing, but when the opportunity came to walk one of the most famous routes in the world, I couldn't say no.
Rahima Latif, vice-chairman of the resident's committee, said: "We will be thinking of Sian while she is away. What she is doing is fantastic."
