PUBLIC pressure has persuaded Heighington parish council to look again at plans for a controversial sports field.
Despite objections from 109 people, Darlington Borough Council approved plans for a sports field suitable for football, a pavilion with changing area, car park and a security fence at a field in Hall Lane, Heighington.
The parish council had intended to apply to the Football Foundation for funding but scores of residents attended the annual parish meeting to express their fears which included the position of the pavilion and the height of the fence.
Parish council chairman Brian Anderson said councillors would look at certain aspects of the development again.
A site meeting will be arranged with planning officers to discuss the possibility of changing the position of the changing rooms and the height of the fence.
There will also be a public meeting to discuss progress.
