FIVE A-level chemistry students have proved they are among the best in the country. They have received national awards in the International Chemistry Olympiad run by the Royal Society of Chemists.
James Silk, from Guisborough, won silver, while Benjamin Grandey, from Middlesbrough, Ewan Robertson, from Guisborough, Stephanie Henderson, from New Marske, and Katharine Wells, from Guisborough, all won bronze.
The students, from Prior Pursglove College, in Guisborough, were presented with their awards by principal Stephen Whitehead.
Chemistry teacher Nigel Durie said: "They have worked very well and done extremely well.
A group of 20 students out of 60 have worked on this and attended extra lessons of their own free will.
Fifteen took the test, but we could only enter five.
"They have been an excellent group this year.
They are very committed and enthusiastic. Hopefully their hard work will be rewarded in their A-level results."
