EARLY 20th Century forerunners of the Dad's Army home defence force will be discussed in a talk on Saturday.
Author and historian Dr Bill Mitchinson will look at contingency arrangements put in place before and during the First World War, in case of German invasion.
In his third lecture-talk at the DLI Museum and Durham Art Gallery he will look at the role of Volunteers.
Dr Mitchinson will outline the plans to protect Britain from invasion and seaborne hit-and-run raids in the years before and during the First World War.
"I'll look at the role of the Special Reserves and the Territorials in home defence and also at the military and political controversies which surrounded the formation of the specially-raised wartime auxiliaries, like the Volunteers, which were the Dad's Army of World War One," said Dr Mitchinson.
Tickets for the talk, which starts at 2pm, are £4, or £3 for concessions, £2.25 for children and £2 for season ticket holders, are available from the DLI Museum, on 0191-384 2214.
