Lingdale Tavern v Staithes Ath
Lingdale followed a midweek win over Highland Laddie with a hard game at home to a young Staithes side and found it hard going for the first half. Staithes midfielders, Gibson and Wood battled hard, making chances for Smith and Armstrong. As the Tavern defence were struggling to hold their line Wood was played through by Dale to score past keeper, Ian Moore, giving Staithes the half time lead. After the half time talk by manager, Gary Bringloe, Lingdale came out and attacked the Staithes defence and when Theaker fouled Breckon 20 yards out he hit a cracking free kick past Staithes keeper, Chris Moore. With the game now end to end Tavern's Moore made a good save from a close-range shot by Wood.
At the other end Shane Gibson broke down the left and his cross drifted over the Staithes keeper into the net. Tavern began to take control, man of the match, Ward, bossing the middle with the help of Darcy and Thompson With ten minutes to go a Dane Breckon corner picked out, his poiwerful header gave Chris Moore no chance taking Tavern a step closer to the league title.
