Aprs nous le deluge - that's the Dam Busters motto and it seemed that the Woodham Golf Course dams had been breached last weekend as the rain water was overwhelming.
Both the Mens and Ladies Competitions were abandoned on Sunday although some of the Mens games had gone out, the state of the course prevented any chance of completion. The abandoned Help the Aged Qualifier will be re-arranged for later in the season.
Conditions were a little better on Saturday and the Mens 6x6x6 Stableford Competition was able to go ahead. That resulted in a win for the team of Mick Kelly, Dave Morgan and Colin Miller who scored 85pts.
The threesome of Nick Batey, Tony Stafford and Lee McCavanagh came second on 79 pts, a very creditable performance given they all have low handicaps.
George Smith, Dave Bowman and Dave Brown were third on 78pts.
The Juniors played their first major competition of the year on Wednesday, April 14 for The Toyota Rosebowl. Some excellent scoring gave the following result: 1 David Kelly 47 points; 2 Michael Fearman 46; 3 Craig Johnston 43.
This competition was run in conjunction with qualifying for the Weetabix event, the next round of which will be played on June 29. The Woodham qualifiers for this event will be Mark Borsberry at Under 15, Daniel Young at Under 14 and Dan Moorhouse in the Under-13 category.
Juniors should note the team practice is on Wednesday, April 28 (5pm). All those with a handicap of less than 28 are welcome.
