THE son of comedian Roy "Chubby" Brown has scaled new heights by climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa.
Roofer Richard Vasey, inspired by his father's battle against throat cancer, trekked up the mountain in Tanzania to raise money for Teesside's holistic cancer care centre, which is in the grounds of Middlesbrough's James Cook University Hospital.
The Teesside comedian, who is attending regular follow-up appointments for his condition at the hospital, began an appeal to help the centre with a donation of £5,000. His son will present £10,130 to staff at a function at Middlesbrough's Riverside stadium tonight.
Centre manager Sue Stephenson said: "It's a truly fantastic amount and means such a lot. We can't thank Richard enough, not forgetting all his family, friends and well-wishers who supported him."
Chubby will be guest auctioneer at the event, a football memorabilia auction in the Legends Suite at the stadium.
A comedian and singer will also perform at the function, which starts at 7.30pm for 8pm. Tickets cost £2.50, but people can pay at the door.
