A North-East teenager who became Britain's first heart transplant baby opened a store yesterday - and then served customers.
Kaylee Davidson, 16, launched the Matalan outlet in her home town of Washington, Wearside, where she has secured her first job.
The youngster, who will be 17 on Wednesday, said: "I am really excited to be starting work. Being able to fit my hours around my studies has really helped me to gain more independence and I'm looking forward to treating myself with my first pay cheque."
Kaylee, of Gladstone Terrace, Sulgrave, will work part-time as a general sales assistant while she studies a foundation course in the performing arts at Shiney Row College.
She made medical history when, aged five months, she became Britain's youngest transplant patient after her heart muscles were destroyed by cardiomyopathy. Surgery was carried out by Chris McGregor, at Newcastle's Freeman Hospital.
