Once noted for its superb bream fishing and arguably the best in County Durham, Wingate's Tilery Lake bounced back with a new match record after almost two decades in the wilderness.
Fishing in the Hartlepool and District AC Match, Shotton Match Group's Rob Emery is now the proud new holder with a remarkable haul of 59.14.0.
Rob on the long bank used the groundbait feeder 40 yards out and slipped the landing net under 13 prime bream all accepting worm and red maggot cocktail. Fellow rod Colin Setterfield sat on peg 18 on the short bank secured three bream in the opening hour on the feeder but then amazingly added 17.0.0 of tiny rudd on the four metre whip and maggot to hand for 29.7.0.
Shotton Spring Series - round two, Shotton Pond: 1 Steve Maitland (Shotton) 8.2.0; 2 Derek Reaney (Newman Scott) 7.9.0; 3 Rob Emery (Shotton) 7.3.0.
CARP SCENE
An explosion of sport resulted in some fantastic bags and Wednesday signalled the onset at the prolific Woodland Lakes.
Newman Scott's Bill Blythe blitzed the midweeker but just missed out on the magic 'ton up' when he registered 99.0.0.
Going out towards the corner on Partridge Lake's peg 4, the experienced New Marske rod found plenty of carp eager to feed.
Catching in midwater at 13 metres on the meat Bill extracted samples to 4.0.0.
Tek Neek Trabucco Elton's Dean Smith winner of the Bank Holiday Open with 102.15.0 was in the frame again but this time relegated to second place when he returned 85.15.0.
Adopting identical tactics Dean weighed in a mixture carp and chub from Partridge 25.
Others: D Sharpe (Elton Tackle) 84.0.0; M Coyne (Map Elton) 63.0.0.
Then come Saturday it just got even better when 'red hot' Dean Smith gave a tremendous performance and the Woodland Lakes five hour match best of 137.0.0 was in real jeopardy.
Pulling out peg one on Skylark Lake everything was set up with the wind off his back into the boards.
Drip feeding meat the Trabucco ace worked tight to the side at 13 metres with meat off the deck and proceeded to catch barbel, chub, skimmers and carp galore to 6.0.0 to push ahead of the others but left the record in tact with 134.2.0.
The action didn't stop there and it was another 'ton up' race to see who would clinch runner up spot.
New Elton Tackle signing Tony Leeming edged ahead with 114.15.0 off Partridge four as another meat up in the water attack produced the goods and left Map Elton's Mark Calvert adrift on 112.4.0 from peg one in the corner of Partridge.
At the Oaks Sessay competitors enjoyed a cracking match on Thursday when Daylight Baits Steve Rothery headed some tremendous nets with 90.12.0.
Steve on peg 34 fished inside using just four sections of his pole and caught pastie sized carp to 12ozs non-stop on the pellet.
Local Chris Hall on peg 54 located a better quality fish with samples to 2.8.0 as the tried and tested pellet pushed out to 13 metres delivered 78.8.0.
Others: B Poole (Oaks) 75.9.0; A Middleton (Oaks) 71.6.0.
