ONCE he was a heart-throb to millions of teenage girls, with a string of top ten hits behind him and Kylie Minogue for a girlfriend.
And even though Jason Donovan swapped the bright lights of London's West End for a North-East pub this week, he can still pull a crowd.
Hordes of curious fans queued to get a glimpse of the former Neighbours star when he appeared at the Chicago Rock Caf, in Chester-le-Street, County Durham.
The venue was at its capacity of 650 when Donovan, 35, took to the stage to perform old favourites including Too Many Broken Hearts and Sealed With A Kiss.
He told the crowd: "These songs may be cheesy, but even cheese has its place, and cheese gets better with age."
Ian Ross, general manager of Chicago Rock Chester-le-Street, added: "This is the biggest crowd that we have seen here. For a midweek night in Chester-le-Street, it's incredible."
