VISITORS to a haunted medieval hall will be invited to track down its ghost over the forthcoming Bank Holiday weekend.
Crook Hall, in Durham City, is reputedly visited by the White Lady, said to have been the niece of Cuthbert Billingham who inherited the building in 1615.
There have been numerous sightings of her over the centuries and she is described as very pale and very beautiful.
On one occasion, she alarmed guests who were attending a ball.
They heard a rustle followed by a crash. When they looked into the hall, the tables had been overturned, destroying the banquet.
A further rustle and a glimpse of a white figure convinced them that this was the work of the White Lady.
The ghost hunts have a PG rating and are unsuitable for under-fives, but younger visitors are still welcome to explore the hall and gardens.
They will be open from 1pm to 5pm on Saturday, Sunday and Monday, May 1 to 3. For further details, call 0191-384 8028.
