AN MP returned to a school with close family ties as part of a global campaign to make education available to every child.
Durham City MP Gerry Steinberg dropped in to Sherburn Hill Primary School, where he used to be chairman of the governors and which his father-in-law David Thornton opened in 1971.
Headteacher David Thurlwell said: "The visit was part of a Global Campaign for Education Week, with pupils lobbying their politicians to help 100 million children who miss out on education for one reason or another."
Pupils performed an African dance, asked Mr Steinberg questions about his work and presented case studies of children in the Third World who cannot attend school.
