HOSPITALS are to receive an extra £100,000 from the Government for dealing with patients quickly.
The University Hospitals of Hartlepool and North Tees, in Stockton, will be given the extra money.
The hospitals belong to an NHS trust where at least 94 per cent of patients in accident and emergency are treated within four hours.
North Tees and Hartlepool surpassed that target and treated 96.1 per cent of A&E patients within four hours. The trust intends to invest the money to further improve A&E services.
Stephen Groves, A&E manager, said: "We are delighted to have received this award. It is testament to all the hard work our staff put into seeing and treating patients quickly and also our proactive bed management scheme".
Dari Taylor, Labour MP for Stockton South, said: "I am absolutely delighted with today's announcement by the Secretary of State of Health and I am particularly proud that North Tees and Hartlepool have surpassed the national standard.
"Everyone who has ever used accident and emergency services will know how important meeting this target is and North Tees and Hartlepool are clearly putting patients first."
