A PENSIONER from East Cleveland won bronze in a 10km road race at the World Veterans championships in New Zealand, last weekend.
Jim Caddy, 79, of Redcar, took part in the 75-80 years category and finished in 57 minutes, just eight minutes behind Raymond Langmead of New Zealand, and Karel Matzner of the Czech Republic. The former ICI worker, who has a fitness treadmill in his sheltered accommodation home at the Sir William Turner Almshouses in Redcar, was the only Briton in his age group to complete the course.
Across all age categories he was the third fastest Briton.
In March, Mr Caddy won silver in the 1,500m and bronze in the 3,000m races for 75-79-year-olds in the World Veterans' Athletics Championships in Stuttgart.
