SOME of Britain's best butchers gathered in the region yesterday to showcase tempting treats for the barbecue season.
The Guild of Q Butchers national barbecue championships took place at the Ramside Hall Hotel, near Durham City.
Twelve teams representing regions of the UK took part, including the Durham Demons. A team from Scotland won the overall title for their products.
The contest was judged by celebrity chef Brian Turner.
One of the organisers, Harry Coates, who has a butcher's shop in Framwellgate Moor, Durham City, said: "We have had a fantastic day. The standard of entries was very high.
"Brian Turner was great. He really supports the independent butcher and what we provide."
