A NORTH-EAST teenager has been chosen as only the second High Sheriff's cadet in the country.
Cadet Sergeant Andrew Halliwell, 18, is based at the Martin Leake Royal Army Medical Corps Detachment of Durham Army Cadet Force (ACF), in Seaburn, east Durham. He was given the honour by the High Sheriff of Newcastle Sir Neville Trotter.
Andrew is a pupil at Pennywell School, in Pallion, Sunderland.
His duties will be to attend and assist in all Sir Neville's official duties during his year's term in office.
Sir Neville chose Andrew, a Four Star Cadet, from a list of likely candidates when taking over his role as Honorary Colonel of Durham ACF earlier this year.
Major Ted Lannon, Officer Commanding A Company Durham ACF, said "We are extremely proud of Andrew, it is a great achievement to be selected as the First High Sheriff's Cadet in this area and he will prove a great ambassador for the ACF in general."
