NOMINATIONS are being sought for the third annual Women in Business Awards.

The gala dinner and awards ceremony is one of the highlights of the calendar, attracting entries from across the North-East.

The Northern Echo has once again pledged its support for the awards, organised by Darlington-based Enterprise Event Management.

The awards recognise the range and diversity of the achievements of businesswomen in the region.

The categories are designed to open up the field to a wide range of women who have achieved success in a variety of ways, from community to high growth.

Last year's winner of the top accolade, Woman of Achievement, Sheila Gibbon, training manager of Bells Stores, summed up the experience of being recognised in the awards ceremony.

She said: "It makes you feel as if you have made a difference and that is what it is all about."

Hilary Dunne, marketing manager at Enterprise Event Management, said: "Each year the judges are amazed at the level and the variety of entries from sole traders to community groups and national companies.

"I would urge anyone who is aware of a hardworking, committed and resourceful woman whose contribution is vital to a successful business to nominate them and give them the recognition they deserve."

This year's Women in Business Awards will be held at the Thistle Hotel, in Middlesbrough, on June 17.
