Teachers get called all sorts of names by their pupils. Very rarely are they called 'cool'. Christen Pears reports on an exception to the rule.
A TEACHER from York has been named Britain's coolest teacher by readers of the teenage magazine, Bliss. Tim Morris, a geography teacher from Fulford School, still e-mailed his class with gossip while doing charity work on the other side of the world last year. His hobbies include writing songs for his band, The Sea Set.
He said: "This is amazing. I can't believe I'm the country's coolest teacher."
The Teaching Survey of Great Britain 2004 is the most comprehensive survey of teenagers' attitudes towards education and their teachers.
Teen pupils in the North-East are most likely to say they can't cope with the stress of endless exams (41 per cent compared to a UK average of 33 per cent). They think maths is the worst taught subject. English is the subject they enjoy most. They also think they receive the worst sex education.
