PRIMARY school pupils got a lesson in French cuisine yesterday.
Children at Marton-cum-Grafton School, near Boroughbridge, visited Le Carolo, in Thirsk, to see Stephane Lablaine, chef and owner of the French cuisine takeaway and outside catering business, in action.
The youngsters saw a demonstration of how to make ice cream, got the chance to write their names in warm, liquid chocolate and tried their hands at icing decoration.
It is the second year in a row that pupils from the school have visited Le Carolo.
Teacher Ann Kennedy said: "Our pupils had a wonderful time last year and the visit was very educational. We teach French at our school and have links with a French school in central west France.
"Stephane brings the whole culture alive by virtue of the fact that he is from France."
The visit was organised by the North Yorkshire Business and Education Partnership (NYBEP), whose representative, Julie Cavanagh, said: "NYBEP relies on organisations like Le Carolo to support the projects that we run and to give pupils a real insight into the day-to-day running of a busy, small business. We are very grateful to Stephane for his help in hosting this visit."
