A MUSEUM'S dedicated team of firefighters have proved they are up there with the best of them when it comes to their job.
The Yorkshire Air Museum, at Elvington near York, has its own fire brigade and appliances.
The crew has just passed the Civil Aviation Authority re-certification exercise with flying colours
Under close supervision, the team enthusiastically set to work on the strenuous activities encountered during a two-day exercise.
They practised fire simulations and casualty evacuations using volunteer "victims" and the museum's Handley Page Herald airliner.
They also undertook timed emergency response trials during gale force winds of more than 70mph, but all target times were beaten.
All nine members of the team passed, with an overall pass rate of 85 per cent, against the 60 per cent required to gain certification.
Fire team supervisor Rob Donley said he was delighted with the commitment shown by his team, who are all volunteers.
Museum director Ian Reed said: "The Yorkshire Air Museum is not only unique, but justifiably proud in maintaining this fire service, which already has a record of outstanding public service during the York and Selby floods.
"The team has also attended many local fetes and shows and provided cover for airfield track events. It is a pleasure to recognise the outstanding dedication shown by the team."
