TENANTS in the Easington area have an easier way to pay the rent.
Easington District Council has launched a flexible payment system - allpay.net.
It allows tenants access to 82 outlets in the district, and a further 40,000 in the UK, to make sure their rent payments are up to date.
Those tenants not already using direct debit facilities or in receipt of full housing benefit will be provided with a swipe card unique to them, which they hand over to the allpay.net facility with their payment.
Councillor Colin Reynolds, executive member for housing, said: "This is a revolution in the way our tenants can pay their rent. It offers a much more flexible way of paying at a time which is convenient for the tenant."
There is an allpay.net facility in every town and village in the district.
Tenants will be able to pay their rents more locally and at times that suit them, because many shops are open for extended hours and at weekends.
They will still be able to continue paying at area housing offices if they wish, but door- to-door rent collection will be phased out, remaining as a service to the elderly and disabled only.
Anyone having difficulties paying their rent can call 0191-527 0501 for advice.
