A COUNCIL has pledged to keep a tighter control on teenagers at a disco this week after chaotic scenes last month.
Darlington Community Partnership will stage an event for 13 to 16-year-olds tomorrow at the town's Dolphin Centre.
The last disco at the centre descended into what police called "bedlam" when too many youngsters tried to attend.
The borough council's licensing manager, Barry Pearson, told a meeting yesterday that tomorrow's event would be strictly controlled.
All those attending must have tickets and youngsters will be searched when they enter the premises.
"It is going to be a professionally managed event," said Mr Pearson.
"There will be crash bars, a proper queuing system and searches on entry. There will be metal searches as well, if the police require it.
"I'm confident that the use of the licensed premises is being properly managed."
Six hundred people turned up for last month's disco but 200 had to be turned away because of lack of room.
Police stopped the event after two hours when some youngsters reported being pricked with a sharp implement.
A council spokeswoman said: "A no alcohol and no smoking policy will be implemented throughout the evening."
To buy tickets for the Next Generation Music Gig, from 7.30pm to 10.30pm, visit the Dolphin Centre or call (01325) 388406 before noon tomorrow.
