A BOXING coach is planning an emotional return to the ring that launched his brother on the road to stardom.
Gary McCrory, brother of former world champion boxer Glenn McCrory, is taking part in a series of amateur boxing bouts in Consett.
"This is the first show in Consett since I, Glenn and our brother Shaun boxed here when we were kids," said Mr McCrory.
"It is nice to be able to go back to where we all started and hopefully some of the lads who boxed there as kids will come back to see the next generation."
The event, taking place in Blackhill Comrades Club, will feature members of his gym, Booker Amateur Boxing Club (ABC), in Catchgate, near Stanley, and some from Consett ABC, against pugilists from clubs across the region.
Those representing Booker include Steven Lambert, 17, from Leadgate, David Makepeace, 12, from Catchgate, and David Cowley, 22, of Harelaw.
"These kids dedicate themselves to sometimes years of training before their first amateur bout and they are all really looking forward to it," said Mr McCrory.
Shows involving members of the Booker gym usually take place in Stanley Central Workingmen's Club, but he is hoping to put more on in Consett next year.
The show, the last in this year's amateur season, takes place on Wednesday, at 7pm. Tickets are £6.50 and are available from Mr McCrory on 07967 351938.
