A THEATRE group has been overwhelmed by the response to an appeal for help in finding a vital prop.

Consett, Blackhill and Shotley Bridge (CBS) amateur operatic society appealed for a Christmas tree for its production of the musical, Annie.

CBS member Howard Rose said: "We were hoping for one but, thanks to the appeal in The Northern Echo, we have had offers of nine.

"I don't know what we are going to do with them all, but we are very grateful."

Annie will run at the Empire Theatre, in Consett, from Monday to Saturday, May 10 to 15, at 7.15pm. Tickets from (01207) 218171.
