South Durham Gymnastics Club have scored another major success with the selection of Amy Fossheim for the Great Britain junior gymnastic squad, writes John Phelan.
The squad are competing in Amsterdam this week in the Junior European Championships and it is the first time for 20-years that a gymnast from the North of England has represented Great Britain at the event.
South Durham coach Rachel Wright said: "It is the club's biggest ever success and we wish Amy all the best.
"Hayley Robson was also selected as a reserve but unfortunately she has had to return home.
"Both girls had been at a training camp in Lilleshall for the past fortnight and were selected after a series of trials."
Fourteen-year-old Amy who attends the Hurworth Comprehensive School in Darlington said: "I'm very excited at representing the country in the European Championships.
"I've represented Great Britain before but never in a major competition like the Europeans. It certainly been worth all the hard work that I have had to put in."
