MN All Stars played hosts to Haughton and it was the home side who applied the early pressure against a below strength side, but they could not find the killer touch. Keeper Gary Hedley produced some excellent saves for the visitors and it took a late Steve Howden penalty to finally break the deadlock and secure the points for the championship chasing All Stars.
Title chasing rivals St. Augustines mained their form as they picked up all three points with a 7-1 victory against the luckless Royal Oak. The Oak with only 11 fit players took an early lead as a John Woods corner found its way directly into the visitors net. However worse luck was to come the way of the home side, when keeper Mike Donnelly, conceded an equaliser, before being injured making a save and having to leave the field of play. St. Augustines finally took the lead on the stroke of half time with a fine headed goal. The second 45 minutes saw a five-goal blitz from the high flying visiting side, as the pace of the game became too much for the Oak, even following the return of keeper Donnelly, who returned from hospital to play the final five minutes as an emergency striker. The Falchion made it three wins out of three after a victory over the Royal Oak. It was the home side that started the brighter and struck first with Mike Watt netting, the visitors came back well and replied through Paul Dixon after a frantic goal mouth scramble. The Oak might have felt they should have gone into the break in the lead as they pressured the home side for most of the half. The second period started well for the Falchion, as they grabbed a two goal lead, when Richie Young hooked the ball home from a Gary Tibbett corner and Watt hit his second of the game, when he powered home a spot kick. As so often with the Falchion, the let the opposition back into the game, and when John Wood converted a penalty for the visitors, it was game on again, though Mickey Bennet restored the two goal cushion, cooly slotting home a Mark Hoggarth through ball. The Oak would not lie down and Peter Bennett brought them right back into the game. Watt missed the chance of a hat-trick when he failed from a second spot kick, Player manager Hoggarth making a rare appearance before hanging up his boots spotted the Oaks keeper off his line and lobbed the ball home from fully 40 yards to show his strike force how it is done, to make the final score 5-3.
