ALMOST 400 balloons were released yesterday to raise money for a playcare scheme for disabled children.
The release was carried out at Cummins, in Yarm Road, Darlington, by Garry West, of Darlington After School and Holidays, which is the company's chosen charity for the year.
The event was co-ordinated by university placement students Victoria Garth, Vicky Wallace, Edmund Zarzycki and Anthony French.
Balloons and launch equipment were supplied by Balloon Talk.
The balloons have tickets attached which tell the finder to contact Cummins. Prizes will be awarded to the finders of the seven balloons that have travelled the furthest.
Prizes have been donated by Middlesbrough Football Club, Sedgefield Racecourse, Catterick Racecourse, Rock Antics climbing centre, Sunderland Dogs, the Life Science Centre and Croft Race Circuit
The closing date for the race is May 26.
