The up turn in temperature coupled with sunny weather has brought about some tremendous fly hatches and subsequently if you're at the waterside at the right time the surface resembles a jacuzzi as hungry trout lose all caution in a feeding frenzy.
Walking around Blackton Reservoir on Monday anglers on the bank enjoyed good sport with buzzers deadly.
Sport lively at Leighton Reservoir thanks to a southerly wind - 128 visitors landed 498 trout the bulk rainbows with 18 brownies.
Best lures orange fritz, black fritz and Dawson's olive.
Highlight was a magnificent stocked brown trout of 12.0.0 caught by John Robinson of Billingham on a black tadpole from the road bridge parapet.
Another brown trout of 10.0.0 fell to Co Durham's R Crosslink this time to a cat's whisker.
Jubilee Lake at Redworth bang on form. Black buzzers on floating lines very effective along with Hawthornes.
In bright conditions trout dropping deeper and a switch to Oliver zonker and white bunny leach keeping anglers in contact with this venue's heavyweight rainbows.
Six doubles last week and an impressive 5.5 rod average. Evenwood's Paul Hull grassed the heaviest at 17.11.0 on a white bunny leach.
Roach fed avidly during the latest Hetton Angling Centre Open on Silksworth Lake and 11 double figured nets were recorded.
The match resulted in a tie for first place as Team Shimano Quaker's Peter Hamilton and Dick Clegg Metro's Neil Cowan weighed in 16.3.0 apiece.
Peter on peg 23 fished at eight metres on maggot and caster over groundbait collecting mostly roach in the two to 3oz range but odd 10oz redfins intervened to boost his final score.
On peg three at the opposite end of the lake the same approach worked for Neil but he had to work much harder than the winner as his net was made up of all tiny roach nothing over 3ozs.
Best of the rest: Geoff Lincoln (Big Waters AC) 14.11.0; Scott Lister (Big Waters AC) 14.1.0; John Parkinson (Team Shimano Quaker) 13.2.0; Paul O'Donnell (Big Waters AC) 12.5.0.
Staying on the subject of roach the Annual Northumbrian Water Match on Hury Reservoir is set for Sunday, May 9 with a teams of four event.
This beautiful Tees Valley reservoir above Barnard Castle offers quality redfins with nets up to 40.0.0. Day tickets cost £6 from the site hut. Match bookings contact Northumbrian Water.
CARP SCENE
Warmer weather brought the fish on the feed at the prolific Carlton Miniott Woodland Lakes and the top three all took over a ton in Saturday's Open for the second successive week.
North-East rod and probably the most versatile Newman Scott's Ronnie Wilkinson typically swapped between three methods to keep the fish coming and hauled out a stunning net of 122.11.0.
Drawing on Kestrel 16, Ronnie had lots of fish his biggest carp just 4.0.0 in a mixed return of all sorts including skimmers, ide, tench, roach etc.
Pellet proved the main bait catching down the boards, then down the shelf at five metres and out at 13 metres for a thoroughly satisfying victory.
