A MASSIVE crowd enjoyed an excellent day's racing at the York and Ainsty point to point held at Easingwold last Sunday.

Mick Brown's Hadeqa (Sinnington), who ran the Jo Foster-trained and ridden Texas Ranger close at the Bedale, reversed the form when taking the Ladies Open.

Texas Ranger tried to make all, but could never shake off the attentions of Hadeqa, ridden by Serena Brotherton.

Hadeqa exerted rounding the home turn and Texas Ranger was well beaten when he came down at the last.

Sally Scally (H Thompson/Cleveland) travelled well throughout and finished second.

He just held off the challenge of Ryedale Racing Club's Perchancer (Sinnington), who finished well after running wide on the final bend.

The Cherry Coward-trained Nordic Crest (T Rose/Middleton) took the Men's Open under a confident ride from Mark Walford.

Held up in rear for most of the contest, Nordic Crest finished fast to collar long-time leader Extra Jack (P Shirley-Bevan/Jedforest) on the flat.

Lucy Latchford's Arabou (Burton) raced prominently, but could find no extra from the second last and finished third under Stephen Charlton.

David Jones' Claire's Nomad took the Members, a feat achieved by her dam, Clairet, in 1991.

Arriving late on the scene in the hands of Rachel Clark, Claire's Nomad landed fourth at the last, but showed an impressive turn of foot to get up to win by a head.

The five-year-old Eastern Royal (D Hill) looked useful back in second, making most and only losing the lead on the line in the hands of Mathew Briggs.

Jacky Sawney's Journey (Cleveland) completed a second successive win in the Confined.

Ridden by Nigel Tutty, Journey was 20 lengths clear at the last and was heavily eased on the flat.

Glendamah (S Robinson/York & Ainsty) finished fast and almost caught the 7-2 shot napping as the Michael Morley-ridden horse failed by a neck.

There was a first training winner for Paul Grindrod in the first division of the Young Horses Maiden when the five-year-old Flat Stanley (Pendle) won under Jo Foster.

Flat Stanley landed two lengths down on Ian Brown's Irish Paddy (Sinnington) at the last, but finished strongly on the flat and beat Irish Paddy, ridden by Richard Clark, by six lengths.

In the second division, Charlie Brader's Duchess Account (Middleton) followed up her impressive Whitwell debut by winning under Richard Wakeham.

The Paul Williamson-trained Shirostan (R Hopkins/Bilsdale) was in front at the third last and stayed there until hanging right on the flat, allowing the fast-finishing Duchess Account to go in front.

Staying on strongly, Duchess Account was a length clear of Shirostan, ridden by Phillip Kinsella.

The second division of the Open Maiden went to the Annabelle Armitage-trained and ridden Stormy Sunrise (J Hodgson/Bedale).

Stormy Sunrise, Pauline Cowey's Black Rainbow (Cleveland), Hidden Pearl (C Mooney/Zetland) and Mon Performer landed level at the last, but Stormy Sunrise was going the better and he pulled clear to win by six lengths.

Second was the Tina Jackson-ridden Black Rainbow with a further two lengths to the third-placed Hidden Pearl, ridden by John Davies.

The first division of the Open Maiden had gone to Michael Broad's Scenic Storm (Bedale). He led two out and looked set for a comfortable win.

The Ben Woodhouse-ridden Gollinger (R Woodhouse/Middleton) landed five lengths down at the last, but rallied, ran on strongly and just failed to catch Scenic Storm by a length.

Another horse to show an impressive turn of foot from the final fence was Charmaine Raw's Nought To Ninety (South Durham).

Ridden by Lee Bates, he was three lengths down at the last, but sprinted up the run in and headed long-time leader Civil Gent (J Payne/Blankney), ridden by Guy Brewer, close home.

* On Monday, the Zetland point to point takes place, first race 1pm.
