A PLAY area in east Cleveland, which has had a £70,000 face-lift, was opened this week.
The play area, at King George V playing fields, Guisborough, includes an enclosed area for younger children, with swings, climbing frames and apparatus for teenagers, including an aerial runway and a climbing net.
The investment, which includes a £10,000 contribution from Guisborough Town Council, is part of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's £1m capital investment in play areas. Coun Franklin, a Guisborough ward councillor and a great-grandmother, who will be 80 in June, said: "Each year for the past five years, the town council has provided £10,000 towards play facilities for younger children. This is the fifth instalment and we're delighted. I think it's marvellous and my ward councillor colleague Bill Clarke and I already know it's being well used."
Community services manager, Ged Demoily, said: "This funding from the town council has helped provide a modern play area, chosen by the community, with more equipment than our own budget would allow."
