Richmond Dales: On Saturday the Junior team travelled to Middlesbrough to swim in the Junior League and on Sunday the full team travelled to Eston to compete in the Teesside and North Yorkshire League, winning both events.
The Junior Team swam exceptionally well , and in spite of not being able to find swimmers for three events, finished in first place. This Team will now swim in the Final Gala to be held in the Felling Pool on Sunday, June 27, this will decide which Team will be promoted to Division 2.
Final results: Blyth 118 points; Billingham 141; Peterlee 153; Ashington 186; Richmond 192.
At Eston the Team Captain set the standard winning both the backstroke and butterfly individual events and leading out the open relay teams to wins, this performance earning him the swimmer of the gala award. Alec Wann swam well on his return from injury winning his individual backstroke and helping his team to win both their relays.
All the nine-year-old swimmers raised their performances for a second day and won all their events.
Final results: Eston 189 points; Stockton Amateurs 224; Thornaby 229; Richmond 282.
