MAN of the moment Adam Boyd is proof that the loan system can be put to good use.
With his Hartlepool United career stalling, the striker was sent to Boston on a temporary basis and returned to take his Victoria Park days to new heights.
The Hartlepool-born striker has netted ten goals in eight games to propel Pool to fifth spot in the table.
Pool meet Plymouth tomorrow at Victoria Park knowing a place in the end of season shake-up can be assured if they avoid defeat.
A win for Tranmere over Port Vale would also make Pool certainties for the end of season play-offs.
Boyd has netted doubles in his last three Victoria Park outings, netting against Notts County, Bournemouth and Luton.
He has 25 league goals for Pool and has made 32 starts and 44 substitute appearances since making his debut in 1999.
Only four of his goals have been after appearing from the bench.
But it's the last ten games which have been the making of the 21-year-old and he admitted: "We lost to Brentford and Brighton and that is the only time we have lost back to back games this season.
"That is the only blip for us. I'm pleased with how things are going.
"I went to Boston and played 14 games in a row and that gave me confidence and match fitness, which is exactly what I needed.
"It's a lot different to playing in the reserves, which is what I was doing before I went there, and I came back fit and then I was given a chance."
Boyd's strike partner Eifion Williams netted his 14th goal of the season in last week's win at Rushden. And the Welshman, who has 32 goals in 86 league starts for Pool, admits Pool are now being shown respect for the way they have taken to Division Two football.
"We try and play football the right way. We tend not to look at what people say about our chances, it's all down to us now.
"There's some good teams, some big clubs, in the play-offs and it is going to be hard.
"We don't want to make a fuss about it. Remember at the start of the season we were favourites to be relegated and all that. We have showed what we can do, we play good football and teams respect us now.''
New Plymouth boss Bobby Williamson could make changes to his title-winning team. He is ready to rest striker Mickey Evans, while captain Paul Wotton is suspended.
