YOUNG cyclists in the North-East are getting ready to take part in a huge charity bike ride this weekend.
The Big Bikeathon, in aid of the Leukaemia Research Fund, is taking place in Darlington's South Park tomorrow, from 11am to 1pm.
Hundreds of youngsters are expected to join in the event, which last year raised £4,000 for the charity.
An event spokeswoman said: "Last year, almost 200 youngsters and parents took part in the Darlington part of the national event and we're hoping to beat that this year.
"The event is for all levels of cyclists and usually attracts primary school age children.
"For very young cyclists, a special toddler track has been set up."
Those taking part will be joined by circus entertainer Mini Mansell on his unicycle.
There will also be entertainment from North Tyneside Steel Band, plus a Punch and Judy Show and balloon modelling.
To take part, simply turn up on the day.
