A TEAM of walkers from the emergency services across the North will re-enact a Roman march to raise money for the Great North Air Ambulance.
The group, from Durham, Cleveland, Northumberland and Cumbria, will re-enact a forced march along Hadrian's Wall this weekend.
Wearing uniforms of the Roman auxiliaries that manned the wall in the Third Century, the five walkers will start from North Tyneside.
Local newsreader Pam Royle will accompany the team for part of the way.
They will have until Monday to walk 60 miles to Carlisle, wearing similar uniforms and eating similar food their forbears did. They will also drink similar beverages and march the same distances as the Romans.
Great North Air Ambulance pilot Jim Martin said: "We aim to raise money not only by being sponsored, but by collecting en route, and hope the public will support a great cause and see just how hard life was for the auxiliaries."
To sponsor them, call (01325) 487263.
