CHILDREN have been taking part in a celebration to mark the merger of two Darlington schools.
Heathfield nursery and primary schools were separate units until it was decided they would work better if they joined forces.
The new Heathfield Primary School, under headteacher David Hayllar, provides education for children from three to 11.
To mark the event, two children from each school walked the perimeter of the playground, while the rest of the youngsters waved flags they had made.
To symbolise the merger, Adam McGraw and Samantha Dent, the eldest and youngest children in the new school, cut a ribbon at the gate that previously separated the nursery and primary school.
Teacher Judith Hamilton said the children thoroughly enjoyed the occasion.
