A DRIVER training company has appointed two instructors with the specific role of helping people with disabilities lead more independent lives.
Steve Young, from Woodham Village, and Ray Griffiths, who lives in Newton Aycliffe, will specialise in Mobility, BSM's professional training programme for people with disabilities and older learners.
Operating throughout Darlington, Bishop Auckland, Catterick, Thirsk, Northallerton and Bedale, they will be based at the BSM centre in Bondgate, Darlington.
BSM Mobility training is provided in dual-controlled Vauxhall Corsa automatic cars fitted with a range of adaptations, including an interchangeable accelerator pedal for right or left foot operation, and a right-hand push/pull lever that activates the brake and accelerator and incorporates an indicator switch, and a six-way infrared unit. The infrared system is combined with a steering grip and enables the driver to activate the horn, lights, windscreen wipers and indicators.
The instructors can also call on a quick release handbrake mechanism, a series of steering aids, booster cushions and panoramic mirrors.
Details about BSM Mobility training are available from (01325) 468288. Information on instructor training is available on 08705 276276 or at www.bsm.co.uk.
