SEVEN young people from east Cleveland were presented with gold Duke of Edinburgh awards at a ceremony this week.
Joseph Atkinson, Lewis Meadows, Sarah Thornton, Graham Flett, Richard Flett, Sarah Gaatenby and Jacqueline Russell were presented with their awards at Bydales School, Marske, on Thursday.
The winners, who entered the scheme through schools, colleges, youth centres and voluntary organisations, received their awards from Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's mayor, Councillor Norah Cooney, and the council's director of education, Jenny Lewis.
They were joined by more than 100 youngsters who gained bronzes and more than 30 who gained silvers.
A spokesman from the council's Youth and Community Service said: "The award-winners provided a full evening of entertainment in front of a packed audience of their parents, friends and relatives. The evening was a great success and recognised their achievements."
