COMMUNITY support police officers have made 50 arrests since they started work three months ago.
The 21 officers were taken on by Northumbria Police to reassure the public and improve life for Sunderland residents by tackling nuisance behaviour.
They have also made arrests for offences such as robbery, burglary, rape and criminal damage.
Their efforts to tackle youth disorder and criminal damage at the Park Lane Interchange bus depot have resulted in 19 arrests, several alcohol seizures and 12 youths being given exclusion orders.
They have also worked with Sunderland Royal Hospital to improve security for staff and visitors.
Disorder and underage drinking in residential areas was targeted in March, and 22 people were arrested or summonsed.
The force said patrols by officers in areas blighted by house burglaries have led to a large fall in offences.
The team works closely with the force's regular officers, and patrols on foot between 4pm and midnight.
Chief Inspector Steve Hopkirk said: "These additional recruits to the Northumbria Police family have made a real impact in a short time.
"They support the work of police officers and provide a visible and reassuring presence on the streets of Sunderland.
"They are a welcome addition to police resources. They are effectively tackling a wide range of offences and quality of life issues including anti-social behaviour."
