CHILDREN at a Hartlepool school have won the title of best mathematicians in the town.
The 13 and 14-year-olds from St Hild's School won the Hartlepool heat of The Tees Valley Maths Challenge.
They beat off competition from pupils from five comprehensive schools in Hartlepool borough.
Organised by learn2work, an agency that promotes links between education and business, the competition was designed to focus on maths that would be used in business.
Winning team member Gemma Marsh said: "It was interesting to work out real maths problems that people do every day in their jobs. The challenges were quite hard, but I enjoyed it."
The team will now compete in the Tees Valley Maths Challenge Final on Thursday, May 27, in Darlington.
