RESIDENTS are calling for improved crossing facilities over a busy main road only yards from their homes.
Almost 220 people have signed a petition calling for a puffin crossing of the A167 road at North End, Northallerton.
They say that the refuge island outside a local coachbuilders is inadequate and dangerous for pedestrians.
Now, members of the county council's local area committee are being recommended to look into the possibility of installing the puffin crossing.
The police have indicated their support for the request and a survey is now likely to be held to see whether it meets the necessary criteria.
If the criteria is met, then councillors are being recommended to include the scheme in their minor works list for future funding.
