ONE of the longest-serving members of staff and one of the newest have been rewarded for excellence by the chairman of a local authority.
Chauffeur Derrick Bagley will be retiring later this month after 30 years driving for Richmondshire District Council.
Meanwhile, modern apprentice Sophie King was one of the first to join the authority under the new scheme, working as a clerical assistant since March.
Both have been selected for Excellence Awards by council chairman, Councillor Michael Heseltine.
"It gives me particular pleasure to present Derrick with his award, because I, like many before me, am indebted to him for his support, reliability and humour," said Coun Heseltine. "I am sure all chairmen have enjoyed their conversations with him over the years and his knowledge of the duties involved has been invaluable."
Information and communications unit manager Liz Smith said: "Sophie has been put forward for this award because of her positive attitude, enthusiasm and commitment.
"She performs all tasks as well and efficiently as possible and is an excellent ambassador for the Modern Apprenticeship scheme."
