A £500,000 scheme to provide child care, and employment training on Scarborough's Eastfield housing estate has been opened by Deputy Mayor, Councillor Herbert Tindall.
The Eastfield Link Training and Enterprise Centre has been opened after three years of planning.
The project was led by Eastfield Pact, a consortium of stakeholders and residents who, following a quality of life survey, identified a severe lack of childcare facilities in the area, said Coun Tindall.
The first phase involved refurbishing and converting three ground floor flats owned by Sanctuary Housing to provide child care facilities for up to 30 children.
"The aim is to offer help to working parents and encourage personal development and training, and to promote business enterprise in the Eastfield area," said Coun Tindall.
Further developments included the conversion of the flats into a training and enterprise centre said project manager Paul Tyndall.
