A NORTH-EAST college will have modern facilities for all the community after the completion of a £35m redevelopment.
New College Durham, in Framwellgate Moor, is being transformed from 1950s brick buildings to up-to-date grey structures. Work will be completed by autumn next year, but many facilities will open in September.
Included in the college curriculum are vocational courses for students who want to learn practical skills such as catering, hairdressing and tourism, which will be offered at discounted rates.
The college also boasts industry-standard equipment for training in construction crafts, leading to qualifications in brick-laying, tiling, plastering, plumbing, motor mechanics, and painting and decorating.
From September, people will able to enjoy a meal in the training restaurant, have their hair done or book a holiday in the college's travel agency.
Next year, a gym will open along with a cafe bar and theatre area featuring shows by students.
